NEWS: Job satisfaction & work-life balance trumps salary, say marketers | B2B Marketing

Marketing professionals rate job satisfaction and work-life balance as being more important than salary, new research by

REED

and

YouGov

has revealed.

Forty-two per cent of the 1600 professionals surveyed claimed that job satisfaction was the single most important aspect of working life. This was followed by work-life balance (25 per cent).

Meanwhile, the report showed one in eight (13 per cent) of those in marketing roles are unsatisfied at work, with one in five (20 per cent) planning on looking for a new job over the course of the next 12 months.

One in 10 (11 per cent) workers have worked for the same employer throughout their career; however, almost three times as many (30 per cent) have moved workplaces more than seven times. This is more than the national average of 22 per cent. When asked why they changed employer, 45 per cent marketing and advertising professionals said prospects of promotion, followed by better salary (41 per cent) and boredom with their current role (30 per cent) were relevant.

Catherine Maskell, head of marketing at Reed, said: “Our research shows that in the last 12 months, 28 per cent of marketing workers received some form of pay rise, and 18 per cent received a bonus. However, with 21 per cent having received no benefits, the fact that 20 per cent are planning to look for a new role over the next 12 months, is hardly surprising. Employers need to start taking action and think wider than just the salary package.”
