The goal post move as the search engines constantly try to make sure that (a) there search engines remain useful, so search results are based on relevance rather “tricks” and (b) their revenue streams are protected.
So to stay ahead, I’d suggest giving even more focus on what people find when they do search rather than just getting your URL on their screen. Of course it’s important to be found but if people find you and then are disappointed with what you offer, it’s not going to do you any good. So make sure you’re doing real link building – i.e. people building relationships with your brand on-line, and more importantly, telling their networks about you. That will also boost your search rankings as well as being more effective.
