A ‘real life companion’?

Samsung says its new phone is a ‘real life companion,’ which is a silly way to describe a phone.

The full wording is:

You can see what they are going for, trying to create the impression that this new phone can be an extension of your life, helping you to stay in touch with the people that matter… etc.

But anyone familiar with the meaning of words will question whether these phrases really mean anything.

It’s an example of marketing content lacking substance.

If it was in a news story, a feature in a magazine, or part of a book, it would (hopefully) have been questioned.

Sloppy copy is often left in marketing materials though. And this is a great example where a keener eye could have eliminated the bluster and replaced it with something more meaningful.

Meanwhile, the phone looks very impressive.
