Go and look at news websites, or even A-List blogs in your niche. What do they have in common?
Answer: they all host advertising. That’s right. Traditional advertising. It’s that traditional approach to advertising that has led to consistent sales for thousands of companies all over the U.S. – and hundreds or thousands of businesses world-wide. Here’s how to make the new old-fashioned way work for you.
Buy Cheap Web Traffic
No, you don’t have to buy bad traffic, just cheap web traffic. Think it doesn’t exist? Then you need to step off Google’s ad platform for a minute. There are lots of traffic sources out there if you know where to look. Traffic brokers snap up expired domains, and then resell that traffic for a profit.
Why don’t these traffic brokers just set up a website, or network of sites, and make money with their traffic? They do (at least some of them do). However, many of them broker the traffic due to the sheer expense or time commitment associated with setting up a website, maintaining order fulfillment, keeping track of affiliate sales, and running an online business.
Usually, companies sell traffic on either a CPM or CPV basis. A CPM refers to “cost per thousand” and is very common. Less common is the CPV platform. This is a “cost per view,” and can be very advantageous if you’re dealing in large volumes of traffic.
Do Full Page Advertising
When working with companies, try to find one that offers full-page advertising. In other words, your site should be displayed in a full window. You don’t want to have your website hidden by other, competing, ads or services that might conflict with yours. Likewise, you don’t want your site to be served on a traffic network where people are paid to view ads. These incentivized ad networks rarely work out well for the companies buying traffic since people are motivated to look at as many ads as possible. It’s entirely likely that your ad will be glossed over as the site visitor is counting down the seconds until the next ad is shown.
Convert Your Website Traffic With Good Ad Copy
Good ad copy is essential. The holy grail of advertising is still the classic book “Scientific Advertising,” by Claude Hopkins. Though dated, its concepts and principles still apply – even to 100 percent web-based businesses. Good ad copy grabs your user’s attention, motivates them to take action, and closes the deal.
