Google’s Android operating system now accounts for 72.4 per cent of the global smartphone market, according to new data from Gartner.
That figure represents a huge leap from the 52.5 per cent share Android boasted last year.
Though most of those gains were made at the expense of RIM and Symbian, Apple won’t be celebrating as the report suggests its share has slipped from 15 per cent down to 13.9 per cent.
Android’s growth has gone hand-in-hand with that experienced by Samsung, the manufacturer responsible for putting together several of Android’s most popular handsets, including the S3.
