The iPad accounts for 68 per cent of global tablet sales in Q2 2012, according to figures from the International Data Corporation (IDC).
Apple sold 17 million iPads in a quarter that saw 25 million tablets sold worldwide.
Global tablet sales are up 34 per cent, quarter-on-quarter, and 62 per cent year-on-year.
Such impressive growth statistics will only fuel the fire of those arguing marketers need to think increasingly about delivering their compelling experiences on mobile devices.
And tablet growth is expected to continue. Bob O’Donnell, IDC programme vice president, clients and displays, said, “In addition to major new products from Amazon, and quite likely Apple, we can also expect an influx of Microsoft Windows 8 and Windows RT-based tablets starting in late October.”
