British Airways has created a picture of the Statue of Liberty using 600,000 coins to celebrate the launch of its discount season – ‘The Big British Airways Take Off’.
Delivered from a London bank vault, the airline decided to draw the Statue of Liberty because New York is British Airways’ flagship destination. The 10 metre high and eight metre wide picture was designed by a team of seven people in six hours, carried out in one of British Airways aircraft hangars.
When asked why they chose to use the coins for the image, a British Airways spokesperson said: “Coins were a natural choice for the picture, as they help reinforce the savings British Airways customers can make when they buy flights and holidays with us.
“They also create a fantastic two-tone effect that enabled us to do one of our favourite landmarks justice”.
