Some 65% of Brits access the internet at least as often using smartphones rather than computers, compared to just 35% in 2012, according to new Google research.
Shedding new light on the enormity of the shift in browsing preferences, the five-year study also found that three in four UK citizens now own a smart device.
While the growth of smartphone usage was found across all demographics, it’s particularly prevalent among those under 25 years of age.
Every week, 88% of people under 25 use their smartphones for search engines, 77% to watch online videos, 90% to visit social networks, and 88% to check email.
Almost half (45%) of those over the age of 55 now also use a smartphone.
