Imagery expert Canon has announced it has renewed its contract to become the first official sponsor of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, which will be hosted in Japan.
The previous tournament – hosted in England in 2015 – experienced the event’s best ever attendance, with sponsors treated to a potential 2.48 million fans in attendance, across broadcast, digital and social coverage in more than 200 nations.
Canon will provide support to members of the press covering the tournament, including camera and lens maintenance services and product loans. The sponsor will also support the event by facilitating the printout of handout materials and streamlining document workflows.
Fujio Mitarai, chairman and CEO of Canon Inc., said: “Canon is delighted to continue backing the tournament.
“In addition to supporting professional photographers from Japan and overseas as they capture the intense action of the world’s top teams facing off in peak condition; Canon, working together with the organising committee, relevant authorities, local government and other corporate sponsors, will do the utmost to support Rugby World Cup 2019 throughout Japan.”
Hosted every four years, the tournament is one of the world’s most prestigious sporting events and will take place in 12 host cities across Japan.
