Using IFTTT For Social Media Content Marketing

IFTTT In ActionToday I got my first results for a sports brand client using a new(ish) online tool.  It’s called IFTTT which stands for “If This, Then That”.

It allows you to set up search and action requests through online sites which can automate activities for you.  They call this “recipes”. For our client, we set up a search on the selling website, Etsy, whenever an item was listed for their sport, we set it up to send us a link in an email.  We used this for two purposes – for our client to find new products to stock over the Christmas holiday in their shop and secondly to find images to share onFacebook.  It’s been wildly successful – giving us access to new material which we did not have to spend a lot of time originating.  By sharing images in Facebook we get a lot of likes and new shares among our community.  And the Etsy vendors don’t mind because we link back to their shop and hopefully they get sales from an audience already focused on their area of interest. Today IFTTT in their newsletter said the most used recipe last month was for celebrity chefs cooking tips and so I thought I’d bring it to your attention in advance of your discussions doing marketing planning for next year. We think you’ll like it a lot.
