BRANDING NEWS: Apple to pay for Samsung ads
A judge has ruled that Apple must take out advertisements in national newspapers and host a message on its own website stating that Samsung has not copied the iPad.
Judge Colin Birss announced the decision yesterday after stating on 9 July that he did not believe Samsung’s designs were replicas of Apple’s because they were “not as cool.”
Apple is unhappy with the judgement as it means the company will have to directly reference a competitor in an advert; a far cry from the slick, minimal advertising we are used to seeing from Californian company.
Despite this ruling in the UK, Apple has succeeded in banning rival products in some other countries around the globe.
