BRANDING NEWS: RIM becomes BlackBerry

Research in Motion (RIM), the Canadian company behind BlackBerry, will now be known as BlackBerry.

The name change was announced at the launch event of Blackberry 10, the company’s new phone range and operating system.

Staged simultaneously at eight cities around the world, the event saw the launch of two new devices BlackBerry is hoping will revive its fortunes.

The Z10 is a touch smartphone, not dissimilar to the iPhone. While the Q10 is keyboard and touch, and shares more with BlackBerry’s traditional offering.

Both run BlackBerry’s new operating system, and come packed with a raft of impressive sounding promises regarding performance and security.

A huge amount is riding on this launch for BlackBerry. Time will tell whether or not its new offerings are enough to restore the company to its former glories.
