EMAIL NEWS: Microsoft to axe Hotmail
Microsoft officially launched its new Outlook email service today, marking the beginning of the end for its Hotmail product.
Acquired by Microsoft 16 years ago, Hotmail will be replaced by Outlook.com over the coming months. Though Microsoft has stated it will not be forcing users to change their email addresses.
Outlook represents a much more modern offering, bearing greater resemblance to Google’s Gmail than the Hotmail service it replaces.
It has been revealed that Outlook is launching with an impressive 60 million active users.
Microsoft has been on the offensive to launch its new service, and Google is firmly in its sights. The search giant is attacked for its privacy failures in Microsoft’s recent video campaign.
Bill Gates’ former company has also released some product focused content. A video introducing Outlook can be viewed below.
