NEWS: Smartphones are the most popular device for going online

Smartphones have beaten laptops as the most used device for accessing the internet according to Ofcom’s new findings. In March 2015 the average adult spent nearly two hours online each day on their mobile phones, whereas just over an hour online via laptops and PC’s.

New findings revealed by the communications regulator shows that 33 per cent of online users prefer using their smartphones to access the internet over their laptops. This shows that it could well be the start in the decline of PC usage and could see mobile usage surge even further over the coming years.

A significant cause for the turn-around, according to Ofcom, is the takeover of 4G mobile broadband, providing faster online access, as subscriptions in 2014 rose from 2.7 million to 23.6 million by the end of the year.
