NEWS: Virgin Media Business runs special taxi service for SMEs

Virgin Media Business has run a week-long special taxi service for SMEs.

‘SMECab’ provided free taxi rides to entrepreneurs across key UK cities, including London, Manchester and Sheffield.

The branded taxis were packed with technology and tools to help passengers polish their digital skills during the journey, as well as a message from Sir Richard Branson and best practice case studies. Additionally, business people were able to record video clips while in transit about the highs and lows of running a company.

The campaign included a special stunt with a taxi sailing across The River Thames in order to show how great technology can help companies ‘cross the divide’ that stands between them and commercial success.

This activity follows a recent initiative by Virgin Media Business to provide an online learning hub of resources and materials for businesses to help them make the most of technology. It is also the first major showcase of the company’s new brand identity, which introduces pink to the palette for the first time and includes a more grown-up take on the Virgin tone of voice to reflect the brand’s B2B focus.

Mike Smith, director, SMB at Virgin Media Business, said: “Technology has an unrivalled power to help propel businesses forward but people need the skills to be able to use it. With simpler products, better skills and backing from the top, the UK’s businesses will grow faster and that can only be good for the whole economy.

“The UK’s digital economy already accounts for eight per cent of GDP – more than any other G20 nation – but we risk losing this competitive advantage if we fail to enable our SMBs to use technology better.”
