SOCIAL MEDIA NEWS: Facebook sued for patent infringement

Global law firm Fish and Richardson has filed a lawsuit against Facebook for patent infringement.

Facebook is facing legal action over its use of the ‘like’ button and other features on the networking site.

The lawsuit has been filed in a Virginia federal court on behalf of Rembrandt Social Media on the claim that the social media giant ‘used two Rembrandt patents without permission to help build the world's largest social media web site.’

The law firm is alleging that the patents in question were issued to inventor "Jos" van der Meer more than 10 years ago. The patents were issued in 1998, five years before Facebook arrived.
