SOCIAL MEDIA NEWS: News stories might not help with search rankings
Trying to boost your SEO? Then pitching a news story isn’t the one, according to a survey from Broadgate Mainland Digital Trends Survey.
The survey asked 100 business and finance journalists about their use of digital media. Only half of respondents optimised their news stories for search engines. Research also revealed a company website is the primary source of information when researching stories.
While having a well laid-out and informative website could help you receive press coverage, a presence on Twitter may not. Although 56 per cent of respondents said they listened in on conversations on Twitter when researching stories, only two per cent said super influencers impacted on who was quoted.
A total of 81 per cent of respondents engaged with online audiences via social media but email was still the preferred method of being pitched to.
