Skype is launching a new $12 million campaign targeting the dehumanising effect of widespread social media use.

The Microsoft-backed online call company is using taglines such as ‘When did LOL replace the sound of laughter?’ and ‘Your one way ticket back to humanity.’

The campaign is set to launch in the US in the coming months.

Though attention-grabbing, it is not a new theme as similar messages have previously been used to promote the use of conference calling and face-to-face events in a business setting.
