Facebook discusses privacy update

Facebook is currently discussing changing its privacy policy. The social network is reviewing user feedback on updating its terms which would mean ads could be created using the user names and profile pictures of its users.

However, the update has been delayed after six consumer and privacy groups asked the US Federal Trade Commission to look into Facebook’s plans.

Plus, many users have been critical of the update.

Meanwhile, the social media site said its proposal merely clarified the language of its privacy policy rather than making any material changes to it.

Once launched, the policy will make it clear when users have given Facebook permission to use their likenesses, names and personal information to endorse products and services.

In 2011, Facebook faced legal action launched in which saw it pay £13 million to compensate users who said it had used their data without explicit permission.
