Facebook ‘Subscribe’ to get website roll out

Facebook is planning an expansion of its ‘Subscribe’ feature, with the creation of a plug-in that can be added to any website designed to allow users to follow all news and updates from any person, group or brand.

The move, announced at the Le Web conference in Paris, is being heralded as a major play against Twitter and Google Plus and offers marketers a new opportunity to engage with their target demographics over Facebook.

Facebook’s ‘Subscribe’ functionality was added earlier this year, and offers users the kind of one-way ‘friendship’ that exists on Twitter.

The newly announced plug-in will see Facebook ‘Subscribe’ buttons being added to websites, right next to Twitter’s ‘Follow’ buttons.

At present there is no confirmed launch date for the expansion of ‘Subscribe’.
