Facebook is closing its three-year-old email service ‘@facebook.com’, due to lack of popularity.
The social media network will close its email service in March, and from then on emails sent to the ‘@facebook.com’ addresses will be forwarded to a user’s personal email account.
The network initially launched the service to enable users to combine their communications via a single unique inbox.
A Facebook spokesperson said: “We’re making this change because most people haven’t been using their Facebook email address.”
The closure of ‘@facebook.com’ comes only days after Facebook’s acquisition of instant messaging app WhatsApp for £11.4 billion.
