Over a quarter of small businesses (26 per cent) are using Facebook as their preferred social media promotion platform, according to research carried out by YouGov.
LinkedIn is used by 25 per cent and Twitter by 21 per cent, highlighting that many SMEs are yet to switch on to the possibilities offered by social media marketing.
Interestingly, though Facebook is the most widely used platform, of the SMEs surveyed it was felt that LinkdIn is the channel offering the best opportunities for return on investment.
The survey, which sought the opinions of 500 senior SME decision makers, found that over half (56 per cent) of SMEs carry out no social media activity at all.
