Google faces backlash over ‘shared endorsements’

Users are protesting over Google’s plans to put people’s faces and comments about products and places into adverts.

The search engine is updating its Terms of Service. This update clarifies how users profile name and photo could appear on products (including reviews and ads).

The internet giant previously alerted users to the policy change via web page ‘policies and principles’, and a banner on its homepage.

Users are protesting against the update by altering their image profiles on Google+ in response. For example, some users have  swapped their profile pictures to Google’s executive chairman, Eric Schmidt, in order for his image to appear in the ads.

However, Google is yet to issued an official comment about the protests.
