Google launches Kitkat phone

Google has unveiled a new flagship smartphone, as well as the new iteration of its Android operating system: Kitkat.

The chocolaty update is currently only available on the new LG-built Nexus 5, but other high-end Android phones should be expecting updates in the coming weeks.

Launched today, the Nexus 5 boasts an impressive spec sheet, and will compete with Apple’s iPhone 5 and the Samsung  S4 at the top end of the phone market.

Two versions of the phone are available, one offering 16GB of internal storage and the other with 32GB, and prices start at £299, contract-free.

Android fans may be forced to switch networks if they are keen to experience the new Nexus though, as early reports suggest Vodafone and EE will not be stocking the handset.

For further detail on the launch visit the Nexus 5 website.
