Google Plus opens to all with bold new ad

Google’s attempt to secure a slice of the social media pie, Google Plus, has launched to the general public today.

The service was previously only available to a closed group of people, though they did have invitation privileges.

Google has employed a high impact campaign on its homepage, with the area usually reserved for the famous Google doodles being used to house a giant blue arrow directing attention towards the new ‘+You’ button on the top left of the page.

It remains to be seen whether Google Plus will successfully challenge Facebook and Twitter’s dominant positions in the social media landscape but there are plenty of commentators claiming it could be better for B2B than Facebook, especially when brand profiles and functionalities are launched.

There is, however, no lack of people voicing scepticism towards whether the service will ever have the weight in numbers required to become a heavyweight marketing tool.
