Google has announced plans to unlink Google+ accounts from its other products following user feedback. The first product to be unlinked will be YouTube.
YouTube users will no longer require a Google+ profile when uploading, commenting or creating a new channel. Users who currently have their social profile linked to the site can choose to keep it or remove it. By disconnecting Google+ profile, the video sharing site say it will be able to improve its comment ranking system and reduce the visibility of spam.
YouTube users and creators have previously complained about the integration of Google+ since it was rolled out in 2013.
Bradley Horowitz, VP of streams, photos, and sharing, said in a blog post: ‘When we launched Google+, we set out to help people discover, share and connect across Google like they do in real life. While we got certain things right, we made a few choices that, in hindsight, we’ve needed to rethink. So over the next few months, we’re going to be making some important changes.’
These changes will be rolled out in the coming months.
