Google has topped YouGov BrandIndex’s first global brand health rankings, a list dominated by online brands.
YouGov evaluated each brand through a score, which takes into account factors including a brand’s quality, value and the likelihood that a consumer would recommend the brand to others.
Google’s sister company YouTube came second, with Facebook positioned at number three.
This follows news that Microsoft topped BrandZ’s first annual list of the most valuable B2B brands.
Other tech firms also feature prominently on the list, with device manufacturer Samsung in fourth place and Apple’s iPhone in the sixth spot, while online retail behemoth Amazon claimed seventh.
Measured based on the same factors, YouGov also released a ranking for UK firms. Although the list predominantly featuring B2C brands that’ve been around for more than 20 years, Sony, Amazon and Samsung also made the top 10.

Pauline Robson, managing partner and head of real world insight at Mediacom, said: “Our advice to brands is to look and learn from the companies at the top of the list. It’s no coincidence that many of the brands in YouGov’s top 10 were also identified by participants in our research as being purposeful brands. Brands must innovate but also build strong social values in order to thrive in the long-term.”
