Instagram has launched a new app called Boomerang to help users create quick and action-packed videos.
The app takes a burst of photos and stitches them together into a mini video that plays forward and backwards in a loop in a similar style to a gif.
Videos can be captured in landscape and portrait and does not require an Instagram login to use.
With video apps such as Vine and Apple’s Live Photos feature already a staple for many marketers, Instagram is aiming to push the boundaries of visual communication.
In a blog post announcing the launch last week, Instagram commented: “Capture a friend jumping off a diving board, defying physics as she flies back and forth through the air.
“Transform an ordinary selfie with your friends into a funny video. Get that exact moment your friend blows out his birthday candles, then watch them come back to life again and again.”
