Social media marketing is up on last year despite many marketers still being blocked from accessing sites from their offices, making social media monitoring impossible according to McCann Erickson.
The marketing communications company released statistics from its annual social media index showing almost half of marketers said they do not feel they have adequate knowledge on how to use social media.
McCann Erikson suggests many agencies and consultants are not doing enough to educate their clients. Twitter has shown the greatest increase out of the main social media sites (Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter) with 61 per cent of those surveyed saying they use the micro blogging site regularly to distribute news.
Almost 60 per cent of respondents said social media communication is now part of their day job. The index also showed Many marketers (45.5 per cent) opt for low cost monitoring systems, such as Google Alerts and 37 per cent said they conducted âad hoc’ monitoring in-house.
The survey was conducted online and respondents were 115 senior marketing and communications professionals.
