K2L launches self-promotional space hopper campaign

Marketing agency K2L has launched a self-promotional DM campaign with the aim of securing new clients.

In order to break the ice with new companies – without looking too pushy or salesy – the agency decided to distribute different sized space hoppers called ‘Dennis’ the ‘client liaison executive’ to a hit-list of organisations. The space hopper was accompanied by a letter asking if ‘Dennis’ could spend some time completing work experience with them, while outlining the services the agency offers. The DM also included a permission slip to complete and return as a means of initiating a conversation.

The agency will follow up the DM with letters and emails asking how Dennis is getting on and encouraging businesses to tweet pictures of him in action. Copy includes a variety of fun puns, such as ‘he gets hopping mad’ and ‘he’ll bring bounce to your office’ encouraging the receiver to take care of ‘Dennis’ and tweet pictures.

The agency is already seeing success, to date K2L has been invited by a couple of companies to discuss its services.

Scott Kennedy, director at K2L Marketing, explained: “It’s been a fun campaign to work on, but it’s not without it’s tribulations. For instance, it took us quite a few attempts just to find a supplier that had the right kind of space hoppers. Despite ordering ones that (on the picture on internet) looked exactly like the one we already had, we ended up with hoppers of all shapes, sizes and colours. It was also a nightmare for our account manager Aislinn to figure out the best way to wrap them. We’re hoping (or should that be hopping) that the stress will pay off and Dennis will do his job.”
