LinkedIn has broadened its mobile reach by announcing the launch of the LinkedIn application for BlackBerry smartphones.
The free app is available globally in several languages including English, German and Chinese. Members can download it onto their BlackBerry Tour, Curve and Bold series of the smartphone.
The professional networking site claims by making the app available on BlackBerrys, along with its other mobile apps for the iPhone and Palm Pre, it is available to more business people than any other professional network in the world.
When asked why an app for BlackBerry, arguably one of the most popular handsets for business professionals, has only now been made available, Richard George, European PR manager for LinkedIn said, “We wanted to make sure we got it right and feel that the native app which allows integration with the phone is beneficial to our members.”
Members can access the same functions as if they were using a computer such as make new connections, manage their LinkedIn inboxes and receive recommendations of potential connections.
Adam Nash, vice president of search and platform products at LinkedIn said, “This is an important step in our strategy to deliver business productivity tools to our members wherever their work takes them.”
