Steve Cook has resurrected the Market Location brand as part of the management buy-out of Wegener DM’s business data operation, which he has led. The aim is to develop Market Location as one of the biggest names in business data, says Cook, rivalling Experian and D&B.
Market Location was established in 1972, becoming part of Dudley Jenkins in 1993 and then being absorbed by Wegener DM in 1999.
Steve Cook is one of three private individuals who have provided funding for the MBO, and continues in the role of MD He describes himself as âvery happy,â with the result of the MBO, and says the new company is âvery busy.â
He continues, âMarket Location didn’t fit within Wegener DM. They are a B2C data-focused organisation. They weren’t getting what they wanted out of it, and the structure we were operating in didn’t allow us to achieve our potential. It’s been a very amicable parting.â
Cook says the break from the parent will enable Market Location to deliver solutions and services that better match the market needs. âWe will be offering a flexible approach, and be acting more like an agency.â
Its focus will be to help clients develop a data strategy, working with all parts of the organisation and with board buy-in rather than simply reselling business prospect data. âThe market for this is very competitive and price sensitive.â
A new proposition is currently in development, due for launch in the New Year.
