Microsoft has bought enterprise social network Yammer for $1.2billion.
It is a move that will not have gone unnoticed at Google and Salesforce headquarters, and one widely tipped to ensure the ongoing relevance of Microsoft’s market leading Office products.
Yammer already has more than five million users at a wide range of corporate companies.
David Sacks, Yammer founder, said, “When we started Yammer four years ago, we set out to do something big. We had a vision for how social networking could change the way we work. Joining Microsoft will accelerate that vision and give us access to the technologies, expertise and resources we’ll need to scale and innovate.”
