Microsoft has unveiled a new company logo for the first time in 25 years.
To roll out in conjunction with its Windows 8 operating system, the new square logo will replace the italic design the company has used since 1987.
The new branding will be present across all Microsoft product ranges, including Office, Windows, mobile and Xbox; backing up the company’s attempts to simplify its offering.
In a blog posted by Jeff Hansen, general manager of Microsoft’s brand strategy, he said, “It’s been 25 years since we’ve updated the Microsoft logo and now is the perfect time for a change.
“This wave of new releases is not only a reimagining of our most popular products, but also represents a new era for Microsoft, so our logo should evolve to visually accentuate this new beginning.”
