Only 13 per cent of social users get their news from LinkedIn, according to a new study by Pew Research Centre.
This could be a worry for businesses attempting to utilise the website to share their own news stories.
Reddit was the most popular social media news source with 62 per cent of users getting their news from the site. Followed by Twitter, with 57 per cent of Twitter users using the social network to keep up-to-date with the latest news
Meanwhile, 47 per cent of social users get their news from Facebook and 30 per cent from Google+.
However, the research also shows that social media users still get the news from other online and offline resources.
For example, 30 per cent of LinkedIn read newspapers in order to stay informed, and 38 per cent listen to the radio and 71 per cent watch TV for news.
