Opus Energy sponsors Olympic gymnast

Business electricity supplier, Opus Energy, has announced European silver medallist Daniel Keatings as its new sports ambassador. The rolling contract began on September 1 and will last for three years.

Opus opted to back Daniel in his bid to become an Olympic champion in order to support a local athlete. The electricity supplier is expanding as a business and wanted someone to match its plans for expansion and improvement to help inspire their staff.

The sponsorship is being marketed internally via email, with staff being encouraged to click through to a new website developed to publicise the new deal with Daniel. The gymnast was introduced to Opus via Catch Sport a sports sponsorship company.

Karim Bashir, MD, Catch Sport, says, “Daniel will have a close relationship with his sponsor. He will make up to two appearances a year and write a blog twice a month about his recent activities and development, to be featured on the companies new site.”

Opus Energy’s MD, Charlie Crossley Cooke, commented on how important he feels supporting the local community and young talent is: “We are delighted to be sponsoring such a world class athlete in his preparation for the London 2012 Olympics.”
