Over a quarter of marketers don’t use all their annual leave

Over a quarter of marketing professionals in the UK don’t use all their annual leave, according to research from Robert Walters.

A staggering 27% of respondents in the Career Lifestyle survey admitted they hadn’t used all of their annual leave last year.

The most common reason cited for not using all their annual leave was pressure to complete a project or not being allowed to take leave (30%).

A further 10% confessed they didn’t use all of their annual leave due to fear of falling behind at work.

More disappointing is the fact only 16% of employers compensated marketers for extra hours worked, either through overtime pay or time off in lieu.

Stuart MacSween, manager at Robert Walters, commented: “Across a range of industries, reviews of digital marketing strategies in particular have been common, as businesses look to keep pace with changing technology.

“As a result, marketing professionals are often under pressure to deliver these projects to tight deadlines as employers look to take advantage of new developments in digital and online platforms for marketing purposes.”

He added: “However, if these projects are not managed effectively it is easy for marketing teams to become overworked, struggling to take their allocation of annual leave. In turn, this may leave staff running the risk of suffering from burnout, lowering productivity and staff morale.”
