SEARCH NEWS: Yahoo buys GhostBird Software
Yahoo has acquired photography app maker GhostBird software. The 4-year-old San Francisco-based company is behind mobile photography apps KitCam and PhotoForge2.
The purple giant has said it plans to integrate many of GhostBird's mobile apps features into Yahoo's Flickr apps.
As a result, KitCam and PhotoForge2 will be removed from Apple's App Store, and no further updates for the apps will be released. However, users who have already downloaded the apps will still be able to continue using them.
This is the latest in a string of activity which include the acquisition of blogging site Tumblr, a Flickr revamp and the integration of Twitter into its homepage’s news feed, in a bid to stay relevant.
The GhostBird team said in a blog post: "As photography enthusiasts, we are long-time admirers of Flickr, and we’re thrilled to be able to bring our technology and passion for beautiful photos to the Flickr team. There has been so much exciting progress at Yahoo! as they re-imagine their most-loved products for mobile, including the awesome new Flickr apps for iOS and Android."
