RIM appoints CMO and COO

Research In Motion (RIM) has announced the appointment of a new CMO and COO.

Frank Boulben is the new chief marketing officer for the troubled BlackBerry maker and will work alongside the executive team to prepare for the launch of the new BlackBerry 10 platform.

Prior to RIM, Boulben was executive vice president of strategy, marketing and sales for LightSquared and has previously been global director of commercial strategy for Vodafone Group.

Speaking with optimism about the future of RIM, Boulben said, “RIM is a pioneer in the mobile world and the BlackBerry brand is a global icon. We all know how fast the mobile arena evolves and with the BlackBerry 10 platform, I believe RIM will once again change the way individuals and enterprises engage with each other and the world around them.  I could not resist the opportunity to be part of that transformation.”

Kristian Tear has been appointed as chief operating officer for RIM and joins from Sony Mobile Communications where he was executive vice president.

We asked three B2B agencies what they would suggest if they were to engineer a return to favour for BlackBerry.
