Research in Motion’s (RIM) joint chief executives have resigned following a difficult year as the company fell further behind in its bid to compete with Apple and Google in the mobile space.
Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie announced their decision amid mounting pressure from investors, who are unhappy with Blackberry’s current standing in the global smartphone market.
Lazaridis, who started the company back in 1985, said, “There comes a time in the growth of every successful company when the founders recognise the need to pass the baton to new leadership.
“Jim and I went to the board and told them that we thought that time was now.”
