This book is a must for anyone looking to improve their meeting leadership skills.
The ‘Dummies’ series is always guaranteed to provide clear and understandable advice for an interested but non-specialist audience. With Running Great Meetings and Workshops for Dummies, Pryce-Jones and Lindsay essentially provide the indispensable toolkit for anyone tasked with leading a meeting in the workplace.
The book has a well-organised and logical structure. It takes you through the process of meeting planning in a step-by-step manner, and illustrates each stage with snappy reminders and tips, which are flagged by clear (though somewhat patronising) icons.
It is obvious the authors are experts in their field as the advice is clear, concise, and supported by pertinent and relevant examples, which are taken directly from their personal experience of running meetings. These case studies are helpfully presented in grey shaded boxes, so are visually easy to locate should you want to refer back to them.
The book is designed to be read in different ways. You can read it cover to cover, dab in and out or simply select a chapter to brush up on a particular aspect of your meeting planning.
The support and advice offered goes beyond the book. Follow-up material, such as cheat-sheets and online articles are available on the ‘Dummies’ website. These online resources are a great addition to the book and multiply what you can get out of it.
Though not specifically targeted at those in marketing, it is a relevant and worthwhile read for marketers looking to perfect their meeting and workshop leadership skills. The tips presented are applicable all areas of B2B marketing and across all echelons of a business. Everyone can take something away from this.
All in all, this book is a great toolkit packed full of useful tips and creative ideas for facilitating efficient and effective meetings. Read it, re-read it and recommend it.
