Sappi deploys its staff for the green job

One of Sappi’s regional divisions has promoted two new green initiatives to renew the paper manufacturer’s commitment to the environment.

The Brussels-based team at Sappi Fine Paper Europe has joined forces with the Agency for Forest and Nature to plant new trees and clear a forest.

Seventy staff members from across many different departments at the Belgium office managed to plant 2200 trees and smaller vegetation in the Sonian Forest. The new trees will enable the company to offset its yearly carbon footprint nearly twice over.

In another initiative, the staff members helped out to clear up a section of the forest and created a vegetation corridor that will help to counter commuter pollution.

Commenting on Sappi’s focus on sustainability and collaborative work, Eric Van den Bruel, marketing and product development director at Sappi Fine Paper Europe said, “This is about partnership and how joining forces can create fantastic results. As one of the biggest paper providers on the planet, Sappi grows trees everyday around the world. Sometimes the world is just next door. Sappi people are very happy to have contributed to a local initiative with long lasting effects.”
