Shortage of marketing professionals expected in 2016, research reveals

Half of employers expect a shortage of marketing professionals during the second half of this year, according to research from Robert Walters.

Forty-eight per cent of UK employers anticipate a skills shortage when looking to recruit marketing professionals.

Of those respondents, one in five feel the skills shortages will be exacerbated by Britain’s decision to leave the EU.

The report also revealed 73 per cent of employers plan to recruit primarily for mid-level roles.

Ed Glover, associate director, marketing recruitment at Robert Walters, said: “Despite economic uncertainty following Britain’s decision to leave the EU, a significant number of employers are still planning to recruit marketing professionals in the second half of 2016.

“However, these efforts may be hampered due to a widespread perception that top calibre candidates will be difficult to source.”

He added: “In particular, demand is high for digital marketing specialists at senior levels across the technology, fintech and agency sectors, with growing pressure on relatively small talent pools.”
