Over a third (36 per cent) of UK workers who attend status meetings think they are a ‘waste of time’, and 20 per cent say they ‘would rather watch paint dry or watch back-to-back TV Christmas soap specials’ than attend status meetings, a YouGov and Clarizen survey found.
Four out of 10 respondents admitted to multi-tasking in meetings, including checking emails and doing other work.
Thirty per cent of respondents don’t think status meetings advance projects significantly and 57 per cent said preparing for status meeting takes longer than the meeting itself.
Avinoam Nowogrodski, founder and CEO of Clarizen, commented: “These results underline how much of the working day can be taken up with preparing for and attending meetings, which aren’t an effective use of people’s time.”
