This title, by Martin Amor and Alex Pellew, is a brilliant little book aimed at those of us who have an idea and a burning desire to bring it, kicking and screaming, into the light of day.
Most management – or in this case entrepreneurship – books are usually paid for on expenses, often bought at airports and added to a shelf that tells other people how well read you are.
The idea in you is currently number one on Amazon for a reason – it’s not like them. It leads you through the process of generating ideas, providing techniques to change your behaviour, ‘Make it happen. Do it now!’ and ‘Don’t try to be original. Just do it well’. The book is a blueprint to help you find your idea right through to realising it.
The book is at its best when it talks about the behaviour and self-discipline required to make your idea happen. Amor and Pellew have worked at some of the UK’s best creative companies and they understand that while having an idea is one thing, persevering and pursuing it quite another.
I have been fortunate to follow two ideas through and create businesses from them. We’re 14 years into building Omobono, but I still found myself making notes of ideas I want to try in the business. Often these books come across as a lot of academic snake oil – I particularly liked the use of real stories from real business people across the UK who have taken that first big step and go on to succeed. You can read the book on one flight and you won’t regret it.
