Top 10 most valuable brands revealed

Amazon has retained its top spot in the annual Brand Finance Global 500.

The e-commerce company grew by nearly 25%, which was $30 billion more than Apple who ranked second.

The report outlined numerous reasons for Amazon’s success. The company had its most successful Prime Day to date. It also crossed $1 trillion threshold on Wall Street for the first time ever.

Similar to last year, tech giants also saw significant success in the ranking. Apple (second), Google (third), Microsoft (fourth), Samsung (fifth), Facebook (seventh) all took positions in the top 10.

Microsoft in particular has made an interesting improvement – moving it up two places from last year. The company has seen a 47% increase in value making it the fastest-growing brand among the top ten ranking.

The report says Microsoft’s determination to adapt to a cloud-centric business model has shown how brands can use change to its advantage.

Not surprisingly after the Cambridge Analytica scandal and issues around data security, Facebook has suffered a decline in overall brand value, falling from fifth place last year.

David Haigh, CEO at Brand Finance said: “The advice is clear: a business cannot concentrate all its efforts and resources in one area and expect to survive long-term. The brands that evolve and experiment in new sectors, like Amazon and Microsoft, are the ones who will continue to outperform competitors; while the brands that are slower to adapt or diversify like Walmart and Apple will miss a key opportunity to grow brand value.”
