With 42,530 mentions in 2014 (up by 358 per cent since 2013), ‘near field communication’ tops Bell Pottinger Digital’s top 15 trends for 2015.
The list is compiled using data of the most talked about trends online throughout 2014, and ranks them in order of percentage increase throughout the year.
Next on the list in the ‘internet of things’ with 1,126,700 online mentions, a 283 per cent rise in the last 12 months.
This is followed by ‘wearables’ with a 220 per cent increase in conversations, ‘internal communications (167 per cent) and storytelling (147 per cent).
James Thomlinson, partner and managing cirector of Bell Pottinger Digital, explained: “While technology will be one of the biggest drivers of marketing change in the New Year, the key focus for brands will be on delivering truly integrated strategies.
“Every year new hardware and software appears, but the most successful brands in 2015 will be those that harness new technology to deliver a single experience to consumers wherever they are in their journey.”
