Travelodge creates a buzz by opening a hotel for bees near to its international conference centre at the Telford town park and nature reserve.
The UK’s first bee hotel will help to promote the opening of Telford Travelodge, a 68-room hotel which will provide accommodation for delegates attending the Telford International Conference Centre. The hotel represents an investment of £6 million for the landlord, Telford & Wrekin Council and the local regeneration Southwater programme.
The Travelodge beehive features five floors and around 60,000 honeybees. It was designed with apirarist Alison Wakeman, who has studied bees for over 15 years and travels across the UK teaching primary school children the importance of bees.
The Travelodge beehive, overlooked by the conference centre, was opened the Telford Mayor, councillor Raj Mehta and Alison herself.
Shakila Ahmed, Travelodge spokeswoman said: “Our first Travelodge Bee Hotel has created quite a buzz and got off to a flying start. We thought for the opening of our 551st UK hotel in Telford, it would be a great opportunity to trial the UK’s first Travelodge Bee hotel, as our new hotel overlooks Telford town park and nature reserve and kick starts Telford & Wrekin council’s apiary initiative.”
