Twitter acquires SnappTV

Twitter has acquired acquire clip-sharing service SnappyTV with the aim of enhancing its real-time video offerings.

The four year old SnappyTV platform allows brands to upload live clips, edit and share video clips on Twitter.

Baljeet Singh, director of product management at Twitter, said in a blog post: ‘As we continue to invest in video, it’s important for us to provide tools that make it easy for TV broadcasters, businesses, and event producers to share high-quality videos. To that end, we’ve agreed to acquire SnappyTV.’

The social network will continue to invest in SnappyTV in order to integrate it more tightly with the network while maintaining high quality video content.

SnappyTv comment on the news via its blog: ‘Over the years, we’ve developed a close partnership with Twitter – we’ve worked together to make it easy for publishers to bring video clips to Twitter, both organically and with sponsors via Twitter Amplify, and we’ve also built Twitter data directly into our editing platform. Through this partnership, people have been able to turn to Twitter to view highlights from major events from world championships to TV and awards shows to presidential elections, just to name a few.’
