Twitter launches Moments feature to take on news services

Twitter has launched a picture-led news feature in an effort to compete with major media outlets that use the social media site for advertising.

Developed by a team of British journalists, the service collates the latest major news stories and presents them in a predominately video and image-led format.

Named ‘Twitter Moments’, the feature is marked by a lightning bolt logo and appears between the Home and Notifications tabs on desktops.

So far, official partners that appear on the service include The Sun, Buzzfeed UK and Sky News, with the UK becoming the third country to benefit from the feature, after the United States and Brazil.

However, Twitter is aiming to monetise the service in 2016 by offering its commercial partners the opportunity to promote ‘moments’.
